No Mac it wasn't..it was a weird house where lots of nasty things happened, and the Mount doesn't sound like somewhere I'd like to work neither.

Slightly off topic, but I have just learned that I CAN be shocked investigating my Family Tree. My Mothers side of the Family go back to Hawkshead, where I can find a lot of my early Family. There is one that I know is connected as there was a small group of my families name, and all are connected
Didn't bother too much. As I said to motormouse, they hung people then for stealing a loaf.
But look what I found yesterday.
Talk About not doing things by halves

That's very interesting WW..when I first tried to find out more of my family tree,my Mam was the only one I could ask..but no she said, you might find out that one of your ancestors was a murderer or a thief..I just said what on earth does it matter Mam,all these years later..as you say, they got hung drawn and quartered for nothing then..so I'm still searching..

I agree, they were hung for nothing, but trust me to find one that was a 17th Century Serial Killer.

On a similar theme,in my Grandads day, plenty men used to get paid ,go straight to the pub then go home and beat their wives..a gang of men would then go for my Grandad ,they would then go to the mans house and kick him senseless..purrin or powin is what it was called..mind you the man wouldn't beat his wife again, but the police came for my Grandad( he lived at the top of our street)he was upstairs and jumped from the window on top of a Bobby.hurting the bobbies neck which put him in Hospital..so they put my Grandad in a strait jacket..I believe he was the first man in Wigan to be put in one..it must have been a struggle,he was a giant of a man..I've looked everywhere for any details of this but haven't found any yet.

Were it relatively recently, I don't know what I'd think (had been it my ancestor). But being so far in the past, I'd be rather chuffed, in a perverse sort of way. Certainly a conversation piece, and one with cracking historical connotations.

I suppose I do think that Corky, But I always said past Ancestors misdeeds didn't bother me. They don't usually, I don't go looking for Royalty or Famous people either, unlike a lot of others. It was just a huge shock to find something so awfull. My own Ghost story as well according to the last part of those Memoranda.

Marjery Jolley
Margery Jolley, spiritualist, psychic and Wigan mother of four, tells of her ability to see "around the corner" into the future, of the sometimes good, sometimes terrifying consequences of this gift and of the many extraordinary characters she has come across, both in this world and the one beyond. The mysterious young soldier who comes to pay his respects at the local war memorial, the power of a possessive sister, the dire warning of the broken picture glass, the case of the severed artery and the ominous Black Presence...just a few of the tales told by Jolley in her account of a life spent coming to terms with her powers as a spiritualist and psychic. Homely, wise and down-to-earth, she tells of her visitations and dreams, prophecies and prognostications with humour and conviction.
