We are looking for new places to try for lunch around Wigan, does anyone have any favourites that they would recommend?

I drove past the reopened chinese off Marsh Green yesterday, used to be a pub. Looks half decent.

Vixen, my Daughter rates The Coven Cafe and Bistro.
It's vegetarian, so not to everybody's taste.
It's only small, so booking ahead might be recommended.

I'd rather find a good pub serving good food than somewhere like a Hungry Horse or a Weatherspoons. They all seem to serve the same stuff. No originality.

I've always said that I would like to try The Billinge Arms but never got round to it. Some good reviews.

I like Chadwicks for a nice reasonable lunch.
I also like The Courtyard in Jaxons Court. Bruciannis as well.
White Crow at Worthington too.

Yesm Vixen, I think it is. I also remember a thread on a less pleasant website about the coven cafe. Something about bad reviews on Tripadvisor.

We don't have that problem now. Southport has masses of eateries, from your pub grub up to fancy Hotel Menu's. We did used to go to The Stanley Arms, Gillars Lane, St Helens. Great old fashioned pub, roaring fires in winter, and really gorgeous food (Home made in their own kitchen) The only thing that lets them down is their desserts, But as I am not a sweet tooth I wasn't bothered as the quality ( and quantity) made up for it. Well worth the travel.

The Stanley arms always looks a good pub. Just off the east lancs. I ride past it a lot.

In the galleries. Go up past Ernst Jones and it's up there opposite what used to be Clarks.

Yes Mac, if you turn off the east lancs onto Catchdale moss lane, then straight along, and its on your left. officially its in Eccleston, St Helens. My Grandaughter used to love sitting in the window and watching Knowsley Safari Park across the fields. Kept her busy when we were waiting for our meals. ( looking for Lions )

I am sure you would enjoy it Admin, But if you do go its a good idea to book a table, As it does get quite busy. I had my Ruby Wedding meal there.

I like The White Crow at Worthington where we sometimes go for our dinner, (sorry, I will never be able to get my head round "lunch". You never heard it in Wigan when I was little; you had your breakfast, your dinner and your tea). x.

I have a long time abition of owning a proper chippy.
As typed previously, I would like it to be located near an industrial estate for profit, but more importantly near a housing estate for the quallity of produce. I type more importantly as I would like to replicate the queues of Friday teas.

I think half of Wigan knows that stumpy. It's all over Facebook. Sad really, another pub bites the dust
Anyway. My brother used to take me to a pub at Roby Mill, its quite a while ago and I forget the name, but the food was really nice

The Starr or the Fox it will be. Both very good, although the Fox is now a Callaghan venture (Fifteen's). Glass and Bottle (Rainford), Ship Inn (Lathom), if you're willing to travel a little further the Original Farmers Arms (Eccleston) is very good, a favourite of ours.
