Matthew Browns Lion ale was the main pint in various Hindley pubs in the 80's.

I believe it was called a Black and Tan. Cider and Lager was called A Snakebite. Guinness and Cider was A Gorilas Armpit. Black Velvet not sure but I think your right Guinness and Champagne. or White Wine.

guiness and black currant ,I used to throw up after a few guiness far to rich and sickly, never mind the ruddy blackcurrant.

You want to try Old Tom next time you see it on sale At the Moon you can only order it in halves. .

I can remember my first pint in St Cuthberts was half a pint of bitter and a bottle of brown ale, followed by a few more.   

For the life of me I can't think why I drink Larger now.

I would say it is more like the Old falstaff a really dark smooth mild but very strong.
It had all the olduns in moon under water fighting after 2 or 3 pints.
Now they will only sell it in halves   

Thanks dale Used to drink Falstaff in the Top Legs, It used to be in a Small Barrel on the bar top, Mainly a Winter Drink , Lovely Stuff You could feel it warming You up as it went down.  

I cant imagine ordering a bottle of Schlits if i'd had a few.

I LOVE Gold Label Barley Wine, Our Joseph! A Black Velvet was officially Guinness and Champagne but most people mixed Guinness and Cider. A Snakebite was Lager and Cider. So you were from Ince, raymyjamie? Do you remember The Long-Neck, (Anderton Arms)? My Mam used to drink Magee's Oatmeal Stout in there!

Yes, I remember the Long Neck and went in a few times.

I wasn't much of a drinker till I got married (LOL that says a lot about marriage).

We lived in Bird St., not a million miles away.

If memory serves, I think you posted on WW that you lived opposite the Long Neck on Ince Green Lane.

Top Hat was sold in the Squirrel Pub, Ince.
