Blackpool was loverly
Sat Jul 31 2021, 21:17
Today I took the long suffering Ms Plum to blackpool, a cracking day with nice temps and a stiff breeze coming in from the sea, Loads of folks about enjoying the day, social distancing was non existent as the business owners know its time to grab as much cash from the punters as they can before the almost certain Autumn lock down or, restrictions are implied, Many hotels offering bargain price christmas weekends if booked and paid now, ( you can see what will happen there ), we walked all afternoon and according to my iphone, I did 1900 steps,
favorite moment was at the north pier having a cup of tea and a scone listing the resident organ player doing his thing and joining in with
♪♫ oh i do like to be beside the sea side ♪♫♫

yes it does, there is something there for everyone, There was a couple getting married on the sea front across from the Tower, Blackpool is a magic place for me, If we could manage the weather, blackpool would be the top holiday resort of the World,

Tom I am happy that you enjoyed your day but in all honesty I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to Blackpool. Used to think Southport was far nicer.

Well there you go, Its horses for courses , Blackpool for me brings back memories of the few holidays we had as kids, Blackpool was the only destination, Steam train from Wigan in the July Wakes, A weeks stay in a B&B with, chips almost every day, We never saw chips at home and there were no chippys where i lived in Billinge, Then the rides on the fair, the sea air, the clunking of tram wheels, the arcades, the shows, the piers, Mum and Dad were friends all week, normally they fought nail and tooth at least 3 times a week,
Its a far cry now from what it was then but, I still love it,

The most improved thing is the beach, its clean and well maintained , The most run down is, the shops, like everywhere else , tat markets, selling £1 shop goods for £4.99, Everything is pricey, fish and chips £7.50 a burger £5 a hotdog from £2 upwards, I did't get to sample a beer cos i was driving,
We usually take a picnic wherever we go, with a flask of hot water and brew tea or coffee ourselves, Because of travel restrictions abroad, most resorts are busy, busy Busy so, parking can be difficult and will be pricey, Blackpool is £1 an hour up to 6 hours then its £10 over that, Unless you park further in and walk or busride in,
I'm happy shooting off on my own with a tent and bike but, Ms Plum needs home comforts,

Tom,
I worked on the M55 construction back in 74 so travelled there every day. Was only based in Kirkham and so would drive into Blackpool and watch the antics in the afternoon when Yates Wine Lodge was kicking out. Now there were some sights then. We only ever had one family holiday and that was to Blackpool. Can’t remember much about it but I know money was scarce. Southport used to be the Labour Club trip. When the money in the brown envelope was spent play football. I did have the pleasure of my Mum visiting us here a couple of times. First time the day after her 88th birthday in December. Freezing cold but she loved it. Snow a foot deep at Lake Louise and then the Banff Springs with all it’s Christmas decorations. Memories.
