I seem to remember the following fact :-
"The Wiend is the highest street in Wigan Town centre."
We had to swat it up for a General Studies test when I was
at Wigan Mining and Technical College on Parson's Walk.

Mac, what a brilliant quiz. When you think, when the Romans were here, there would be no buildings in Wigan and when they where situated at the top of the Wiend they could see everything around them and they were near the Dougie, it was perfect. They have found Roman remains in the Wiend. Wigan was called Cocium then.

I have met the man who lived under the floorboards loads of times over the years, as a customer of mine, his wife even more, the last time only a few weeks ago (wife) and I was quite shocked when I found out about him living under the floorboards and they don't live in Ince any more, in fact they have lived where they live now for getting on for the nearly thirty years I have known them to be there and that is no where near Ince (higher or lower)
