A great landmark...gone.!
Such is progress. Wonder if they could have preserved them as a tourist attraction?
Would have made a lot of money from admissions.

Former Girobank building which occupied the site of the power station is currently (as I type) being demolished.

The former Girobank building undergoing demolition features on today's WW Photo-a-Day, Corky. I didn't know it was being knocked down; it's a shame to see it go.
The new factory will be quite a size, won't it, Vixen.
Europe’s leading wet wipe maker Nice-Pak International has begun construction work on a 400,000 sq ft factory in Wigan ... Once built, it will be the largest building in the borough of Wigan. (M.E.N.)

Not really Mrs A, they figured quite large in my childhood/youth.
It was exiting ,Mac, but also very sad to see them go.
Mrs K was nearly in tears, her being brought up Westwood.
In fact she still goes there to this very day if she is feeling a bit down.

The tops of those chimneys were extended at some point. I noticed the difference on some photos. I think I did a thread about it on WW.

I remember the chimneys being extended, but I can't remember when it was done
