If anything illustrates the back slapping, self congratulatory nature of the 'New Year's Honours' system it's Tony Blair's knighthood.
Blair dragged this country into a war on a lie, specifically that of Saddam Hussein possessing 'weapons of mass destruction' with the consequences being the deaths of thousands of Iraqis, scores of US/UK military personnel and the destabilization of the Middle East, the effects of the latter are still being felt today.
Blair is a loathsome piece of excrement who should be indicted on a law formulated in 1946 to prosecute the German WW2 leadership, that of 'waging aggressive war' but also 'crimes against peace'. He won't be though; the establishment take care of their own, shielding and protecting them no matter how grave their crimes.
