Dunblane
Sat Aug 07 2021, 19:01
Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on March 13, 1996, 43-year-old Thomas Hamilton walked into Dunblane Primary School in Scotland with four handguns and 743 rounds of ammunition. He then approached the gymnasium, where first-grade teacher Gwen Hogan was readying her 28 pupils for class. Over the next four minutes, Hamilton fired more than 100 shots that left Hogan and 16 of her young students dead. Then, the gunman shot himself, too.
It was the deadliest school shooting in the history of the U.K. But it was also the last. By the end of 1997, the nation had all but banned private handgun ownership. .
Andy Murray and his brother were in the school on that day.
