in 1917 the Battle of Passchendaele began. Also known as The Third Battle of Ypres, it lasted for over 3 months and there were more than 500,000 casualties. Around 310,000 were British. Torrential rain left fields impassable with rifles becoming blocked and tanks immobilised. The mud became so deep that many men and horses drowned. The Battle ended in November 1917.

Terrible. And all I seem to read recently is sportsmen / sportswomen withdrawing from various events due to stress. A week there and they would know what stress was about.

PS I am not denying that some people suffer from stress related illnesses and all the best to them as they fight it away from the public eye.
