Adam Bridge work

Motorists could face delays as major repair work on a Wigan bridge is expected to start in the coming weeks. Structural work had been planned to start in July for the 71-year-old Adam Bridge, on Southgate at the Saddle junction. But that was pushed back and will instead start later this month or early in October, though the actual date has not yet been confirmed. A sign erected on Southgate to warn drivers of the upcoming roadworks has been amended with the new dates.

I think the council are going to be working on the bridge over the river dooglas, half of that bridge is about 33 years old and the half on the Asda side is a lot older than that.

They did not do such a good job in 2008 if it needs more work now.

If the work was being done on the railway line, the line would have to be closed and Network Rail would be announcing that, but they haven't because they isn't.

Major traffic hold-ups have seen traffic grind to a halt around Wigan's busiest junction today. But council highway bosses say snarl-ups around The Saddle should ease with the end of repairs to Adam Bridge. Today should see the final part of the junction being resurfaced - with engineering work due to be completed by 3.30pm.

The work on Adam bridge is still going on today at 11am when I went through,  Work is ongoing on the way out of Wigan and there are still cones diverting traffic away from the left hand side near Screwfix/halfords side,

still there at 4.15pm

I went through there about 3.00pm and it looks like the works are coming to an end and I would say they will end this week, but not today and then they have to remove all of their equipment and sweep up after themselves
